While students are learning networking concepts in other related courses, this course will provide a hands-on implementation of those concepts. Systems automation is an integral part of IT management and students will learn how to perform system automation on a Windows-based network using PowerShell. This includes making design and recovery decisions, in order to implement the network with minimal errors. Students will implement an enterprise-level of network and troubleshoot and test various networking services for the network.

The course will centre on a GM Fanuc model S-215 industrial robots and their associated multiple-station automated work cells. This course will also act as an advanced PLC class. It will introduce the student to the advanced functions and operations available in the Allen Bradley family of PLC’s. The student will be integrally involved in making the PLC interact with the robot and other equipment of the work cell to perform useful automated tasks typical of what would be found in industry.
The course is composed of two theory hours and three lab hours per week. The student will be expected to contribute at least another five hours per week of reading, research, programming practice and supervised practical testing.
